# Google Ads conversion tracking

> Count paid bookings as conversions in Google Ads by downloading a ready-to-upload file from Reports - no code, tags or developer needed.

Who can do this: admins only.

Session records the Google ad click a customer arrived from, and Reports turns those into a file Google Ads accepts as offline conversions. Upload it and each paid booking counts against the ad, keyword and campaign that brought the customer in.

## Before you start

<Steps>
<Step>
Turn on **auto-tagging** in your Google Ads account settings, so every ad click carries a click id.
</Step>
<Step>
Point your ads at your booking page, or at a page on your website with the [booking widget](/docs/embed). A customer who lands on a page without the widget and follows a plain link to your booking page loses the click id on the way.
</Step>
<Step>
In Google Ads, create a conversion action that imports conversions from clicks. Give it a name you'll remember, such as **Booking**.
</Step>
</Steps>

## Download and upload the file

<Steps>
<Step>
Open [Reports](/go/admin/reports), select **Export** and choose **Google Ads conversions**.
</Step>
<Step>
Set **From** and **To**, type your conversion action's name into **Conversion name** exactly as it appears in Google Ads, and select **Download CSV**.
</Step>
<Step>
In Google Ads, go to **Goals → Conversions → Uploads**, upload the file, and apply it.
</Step>
</Steps>

Upload once a week or so. Google can take a day to see a click, so very recent bookings may be rejected and picked up next time.

## What goes in the file

One row per paid booking made online by a customer who arrived from a Google ad click. Each row has the click id, your conversion name, when the booking was made in your venue's timezone, the amount paid less any refund, your currency, and the booking id.

The file leaves out:

- free bookings, and bookings covered entirely by a membership or voucher
- bookings your team added, including phone and walk-in bookings
- cancelled and fully refunded bookings
- some clicks from iPhones, which Google only accepts through its API

The dates follow when customers booked, not when their sessions are, so the file lines up with your ad spend. It also follows the location filter in the Reports header.

## Common questions

1. **Will uploading the same dates twice count bookings twice?** No. Each row carries the booking id, and Google ignores a booking it has already been sent.

2. **Why does the download say no bookings came from a Google ad?** Check auto-tagging is on and that your ads land on your booking page or a page with the widget. Bookings made before you did either can't be matched.

3. **Can this send conversions to Google automatically?** Not by itself. If you have a developer or use Zapier or Make, [booking webhooks](/docs/integrations#tracking-ad-conversions) carry the same click id the moment someone books.

4. **Does this work for Meta (Facebook and Instagram) ads?** The file is for Google Ads only. Booking webhooks include Meta's click id for tools that send conversions to Meta.
