Session is a PWA, which gives you all the benefits of a full branded app without the hassle. There are two apps you can install: the customer booking page, and a separate admin app for you and your staff.
Install the customer app
On iPhone or iPad (Safari):
- 1Open your booking page in Safari.
- 2Tap the Share button, then scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
- 3Check the name and URL look right, then tap Add. The app opens in its own window, without Safari's address bar.
On Android (Chrome): open your booking page, tap the three-dot menu, then Add to Home screen (or Install app if that appears). The icon is added to your home screen and opens full-screen.
Install the admin app
You and your staff get a separate app for running the venue.
On a phone or tablet, the quickest route is from inside Session: open the menu (top-left) and tap Install the app at the bottom. On a tablet held landscape the menu is the narrow icon strip down the left, where it's the phone icon. On Android that installs it there and then; on iPhone it shows you the two taps to finish, since Apple only lets you add an app to the home screen from Safari's own Share menu.
You can also do it by hand. It's the same steps as the customer app - but start from an admin page (not the public booking page):
- 1Open any admin page (for example your Bookings page) while signed in.
- 2Use Add to Home Screen (iOS) or Add to Home screen / Install app (Android), exactly as above.
- 3The admin app installs as its own icon - badged so you can tell it apart from the customer app - and opens straight to your Bookings page.
Because it has a different icon and start page, the admin app sits alongside the customer one rather than replacing it. Handy for checking people in at the door without hunting through a browser. It also rotates with your tablet, so it works held landscape on a front desk - the customer app stays portrait, since it's built for phones.
If an install gets stuck
If an installed app gets stuck on a loading screen or shows an old version after an update, open bookasession.org/sw-reset in a browser. It clears the saved app data and lets it load fresh - the quickest fix for a stuck home-screen app, especially on iOS where there's no easy "clear cache" for an installed app.
