If your entrance runs on Kisi, Session can give every booking its own unlock link. The person who booked taps Open the door in their confirmation email or on their booking, and Kisi's unlock page opens in their browser. They don't need the Kisi app or an account.
The link only works for that booking's time, plus a few minutes either side. Cancel the booking and the link stops working. Move it and the next tap works at the new time.
What you need
- A Kisi account with API access. Kisi includes it on its Pro plan; on Base or Standard you need Kisi's API add-on.
- A Kisi API key, created in Kisi from an account that can unlock everything you want bookings to unlock.
- A Kisi group for each location. A link unlocks everything in its group, so one group per location is the cleanest setup.
Connect Kisi
- 1Go to Settings → Data and find Kisi door access under Connected equipment.
- 2Paste your Kisi API key and click Connect. Session checks it with Kisi before saving it.
- 3Under Which door each location opens, pick the Kisi group for each location. Leave a location on No door if bookings there shouldn't get a link.
- 4Set Opens before the booking and Stays open after the booking. Both start at 5 minutes.
- 5Check Show Open the door to customers is on, then click Save.
Your key is stored encrypted and is never shown again, to you or anyone else. The card shows only its last 4 characters. To change it, click Replace key.
What people who book see
Bookings at a mapped location get a Door access box with an Open the door button:
- in the booking confirmation email, and the email they get if the booking moves
- on their booking page, when they open it from Manage booking or their account
Tapping the button too early tells them when the link opens. After the booking ends, it says the booking has finished, and the button no longer shows on their booking page. A cancelled booking doesn't show it either.
Group bookings get one link. The person who booked can forward the email or the button to their guests.
Anyone holding a link can unlock during its window, from anywhere. Keep the buffers short, and don't post a link anywhere public.
When something goes wrong
If Kisi can't give someone a link - your key was revoked, Kisi is down, or the group was deleted - they see "Door access isn't available" with your phone number, and their booking isn't affected. At the same time:
- admins and staff get an email and an in-app alert, at most one an hour
- the Kisi door access card shows Door links are failing with the reason
Fix the cause (usually a new key with Replace key, or re-picking the group), and the next tap works.
Common questions
- Does Kisi send its own email too? No. Session asks Kisi for the link without an email address, so people get one email, from you.
- Do bookings your team adds get a link? Yes. Any booking at a mapped location gets the button, however it was made.
- Does this use up my Kisi link allowance? Only when someone taps it during their booking window. A booking cancelled before the day never creates one.
- What happens if I disconnect Kisi? The buttons stop working straight away, links already handed out are switched off, and your saved key is deleted.
- What happens to links already handed out if I change a location's door or switch door access off? They stop working when you click Save. The next tap gets a link for the new door, or a message to contact you if the location no longer has one.
- Can members walk in without booking? Not through Session. Every link belongs to a booking. Give members who need standing access their own access in Kisi.
- Can I use a QR code at a reader? Not yet. The link opens Kisi's unlock page, which works on any phone without a reader.
