Gift vouchers

Sell session or credit gift vouchers (gift cards) from your booking page. The recipient is emailed a code to redeem at checkout; you set expiry and limited runs.

Who can do this: admins only 4 min read

Gift vouchers are sold from your booking page and managed in Offers → Gift vouchers. The recipient is emailed a code to apply at checkout. New venues start with one credit voucher already active. To give a code away or run a promotion, use discount codes; for a discounted pack customers buy for themselves, see bundles.

Two types

The type is fixed once a product exists.

  • Session voucher - the buyer pays a set price and the recipient gets one booking of a session you choose. The price is locked in, so the recipient never owes a top-up if you raise prices.
  • Credit voucher - the recipient gets credit to spend: preset amounts, a custom amount within a range, or both.

A session voucher is blocked where a session has Can be used on this session turned off under Prices; a credit voucher is money and still pays there.

Create a gift voucher

  1. 1
In Offers → Gift vouchers, start a new product and choose a Type.
  2. 2
Add a Name and a Description (shown on the storefront card and the buyer's receipt).
  3. 3
Fill in the type's fields and save. New vouchers are active and appear on your booking page straight away.

Session voucher: Price, Eligible sessions (one to ten), and Covers. One space pays for a single space. A private hire pays for the whole private hire, whatever its price; tick Private hire prices to cover only some.

Warning

A One space voucher used on a private hire for 8 still leaves 7 spaces to pay. To gift a private hire, set Covers to A private hire.

Credit voucher: preset Prices and/or Allow custom amount with a Min amount and Max amount. Under Limits, Applies to can restrict it to chosen sessions.

Set an expiry

A gift voucher never expires unless you set one. Under Limits, open Expiry, choose Expires and enter a number of months from the purchase date. The credit voucher new venues start with is set to 12 months.

Sell a limited run

Under Limits, open Availability, choose Limited run and enter a number; once it's reached, the voucher shows as sold out. Buying three at once uses three. 0 keeps it listed as sold out without deactivating it.

What customers and recipients see

Gift vouchers appear on your booking page once at least one is active; with two or more, customers also get a /gift-vouchers page, whose intro you edit with the Gift vouchers page button. The buyer gets a receipt. The recipient's email has the message, code, value and a book button with the code pre-applied.

Signed in with the voucher's email, a customer can copy the code under Gift card balance on their account page. Credit is only spent by entering the code. To hand a gift over personally, a buyer can send it to their own address.

To hear about each sale, turn on New shop purchase (Admin) in Email → Automated emails. To let buyers pay less, see Stripe promotion codes; the recipient still gets the full value.

Resend a gift voucher

Find the issued voucher in Offers → Gift vouchers (search by buyer, recipient email or code), open its ⋯ menu and choose Resend voucher. It re-sends the receipt and recipient email without charging anyone. If the address was mistyped, copy the code and send it directly.

Edit or remove a gift voucher

Edits apply to future purchases; issued vouchers keep their terms. A product with issued codes can't be deleted - turn Active off to hide it while every code stays valid.

Common questions

  1. Does the recipient need an account? No. They can redeem at checkout as a guest.

  2. Can I change a voucher's type? No. Create a new product and turn Active off on the old one.

  3. How do I give someone a free gift voucher? Use a discount code with Give to a customer - £ credit works like a gift card.

  4. Where does the money go? To your Stripe account, like any booking. For accounting, see deferred income.

  5. The purchase went through but no email arrived. The payment is safe. Check the recipient email on the issued voucher, then resend it or send the code directly.
