Discount a membership, bundle or gift voucher

To take money off a membership, bundle or gift voucher, create a Stripe discount code in your own Stripe account. Session's discount codes only come off session bookings. One Stripe code works across every membership tier, bundle and gift voucher - useful for a launch offer, a deposit to knock off or a founding-member rate.

Create a code

   Go to Coupons in your Stripe dashboard and create a coupon. Set the amount off (or a percentage), and pick the currency.

   Set Duration to Once so it comes off the first payment only. On a membership, Forever would discount every payment for as long as they stay a member.

   Optionally cap it - Max redemptions stops it once N people have used it, and Redeem by sets a date after which it stops working.

   On the same coupon, add a promotion code - that's the bit customers type, e.g. DEPOSIT10. Add several codes to the same coupon if you'd rather each person had their own single-use one.

   Share the code. Customers enter it at checkout.

Where customers can use it

The code field appears when someone joins from your memberships page, and at bundle and gift voucher checkout. It does not appear on the join prompt shown while booking a session, so point people at your memberships page when you send them a code.

A discount reduces what the customer pays, never what they get: the number of sessions in a bundle and the value of a gift voucher are fixed by the product.

Limit which products a code works on

Applies to on a Stripe coupon limits it to specific Stripe products. That works for memberships, which are Stripe products. Bundles and gift vouchers aren't set up as fixed products, so a coupon restricted with Applies to is rejected at bundle and gift voucher checkout even though it still works on memberships. Leave Applies to unset on any code you want to work across all three.

Very large discounts

Very large discounts can be refused at bundle and gift voucher checkout - anything that takes the price down to almost nothing. Ordinary money-off and percentage-off codes are unaffected. To give a bundle away outright, issue the credit directly under Offers → Bundles in Issued bundle credits.

Common questions

1. Where do I see how often a code was used? In your Stripe dashboard, against the coupon. Redemptions don't show in Session's Offers area.

2. A code worked once and now says it's invalid. Stripe coupons and promotion codes retire permanently once they hit Max redemptions or pass Redeem by, and can't be reactivated. Create a fresh code on the same coupon, or a new coupon if the coupon itself expired.

3. A code works on memberships but not on bundles or gift vouchers. Clear Applies to on the coupon in Stripe.
