Members can move between your paid tiers themselves: on their account page, Change plan lists your other tiers with their benefits and shows the cost before they confirm.
- Moving to a more expensive tier - they pay the difference for the rest of their billing period straight away, then the new price from their next renewal. If the card is declined or their bank needs to confirm the payment, nothing changes.
- Moving to a cheaper tier - the new tier applies straight away and the lower price starts at their next renewal. There's no refund for the rest of the period, so the dialog suggests changing nearer the renewal date.
- Included sessions - if both tiers reset on the same period, sessions already used this period still count (3 of 4 used becomes 3 of 8). Rollover starts again from the next full period.
- Bookings stay as they are, including ones made with the old tier's included sessions or member rate.
A member can change tier once per billing period. Change plan isn't offered, or explains why not, when:
- the tiers bill on different schedules (monthly and yearly) - they cancel and join the other tier when the current one ends
- either tier is free
- the membership is cancelling, paused, has a failed payment, hasn't had its first payment yet, or has a Stripe discount on it
- they're moving to a tier with fewer included sessions while holding bookings after their renewal date that use the current tier's included sessions - they can change once those have passed, or cancel them first
To change a member's tier yourself, open their subscription in your Stripe dashboard and update it to the other tier's product. Session picks up the change automatically, as it does if you let members switch plans in your Stripe customer portal settings.
